What Is Afrofete Albania?
Afrofete is a four-day festival experience taking place from 17th–21st September 2026, bringing together music lovers from across the UK and beyond.
Expect a packed schedule of:
Pool parties
Brunches
Sip & Paint experiences
Day parties
Club nights
Live concerts
Last year, Afrofete took place in Durres, with events hosted at OMA Club. I stayed in Durres for five days, which gave me the chance to experience both the festival and the destination itself.
The atmosphere throughout the four days was incredible. The organisers delivered a well-planned experience with something happening every day and night.
One of the highlights was the surprise guest appearances, which added an extra layer of excitement to an already unforgettable event.

Is Afrofete Worth It?
Absolutely.
One thing I want to touch on is the age aspect because I know it can sometimes put people off.
Afrofete is a 21+ festival, and as someone over 35, I initially wondered whether I would feel out of place. The reality couldn’t have been more different.
The crowd was:
Mature
Welcoming
Successful
There to genuinely enjoy themselves
People connected through a shared love of music, travel and culture. If you’re considering Afrofete but are worried that you’re “too old”, please don’t let that stop you.
In fact, this has to be one of the best Afro festivals I’ve attended.
Between:
The surprise guests
The energy at every event
The incredible people
The opportunity to experience Albania
Afrofete completely exceeded my expectations. And then there’s Albania itself. Albania was an absolute vibe.
From the beautiful scenery and affordability to the delicious food and warm hospitality, it’s a destination that deserves far more attention than it gets.
Afrofete Moves to Tirana 2026
This year, Afrofete moves from Durrës to Tirana, Albania’s vibrant capital city. For 2026, many of the festival’s events will be centred around the beautiful Select Hill Resort. With its stunning surroundings, luxury feel and capacity of fewer than 200 guests, it’s easy to see why it quickly became one of the most sought-after places to stay during the festival.
With over 800 guests expected to attend AfroFete 2026, accommodation at Select Hill sold out quickly. However, this doesn’t mean you’ve missed out. The good news is that there are still plenty of fantastic accommodation options available nearby to suit different budgets and travel styles.
As Afrofete transitions from Durrës to Tirana, many festivalgoers are still deciding whether to stay in Tirana, close to the festival activities, or in Durrës, where they can combine the festival experience with a beach holiday.

Where To Stay for Afrofete
If I were attending Afrofete this year, I would personally choose Tirana as my base.
While staying in Durres and travelling into Tirana for the parties is possible, it’s worth remembering that the journey between the two cities can take around 30–40 minutes each way, depending on traffic.
After a full day of exploring and late nights at the festival, those journeys can quickly become tiring.
Staying in Tirana means you’ll be:
Closer to the majority of the Afrofete events
Within easy reach of Select Hill Resort
Surrounded by fantastic restaurants and cafes
Better positioned to explore the city between events
Recommended Areas to Stay in Tirana
Blloku - One of Tirana’s trendiest neighbourhoods, filled with restaurants, bars and nightlife.
Skanderbeg Square - Ideal if you want to stay in the heart of the city and be close to Tirana’s main attractions.
Pazari i Ri (New Bazaar) - A colourful neighbourhood known for its excellent food options and local charm.
Recommended Hotels in Tirana
If Select Hill Resort has already sold out, don’t worry. Tirana offers a fantastic range of accommodation options to suit different budgets and travel styles.
Whether you’re looking for a luxury stay, a boutique city hotel or something more budget-friendly, there are plenty of great options within easy reach of the Afrofete events.

What About Staying in Durres?
If you’re extending your holiday and want more of a beach experience, Durres is still a wonderful option.
However, if Afrofete is your main reason for visiting Albania, I genuinely believe staying in Tirana is the better choice.
Instead of travelling back and forth between Durres and Tirana after late-night events, you can use Tirana as your base and enjoy organised day trips whenever you have free time.
Durres may be a better fit if you’re planning to turn your festival trip into a longer beach holiday before or after Afrofete.
Recommended Hotels in Durres
If you decide to stay in Durres, you’ll find a variety of beachfront hotels and resorts offering a more relaxed coastal atmosphere.
These properties can be a great option if you’re extending your stay in Albania or combining Afrofete with a traditional beach holiday.

Where To Eat
One of the biggest differences I noticed between Durres and Tirana was the food scene.
Durres had some fantastic restaurants, but the overall variety felt more limited.
Tirana, on the other hand, offers a huge range of options, from traditional Albanian cuisine and brunch spots to rooftop restaurants and international favourites.

Things To Do Beyond Afrofete
If you’re extending your stay, Albania has so much more to offer.
Many tour providers offer hotel pick-up and drop-off, making it easy to explore some of the country’s highlights.

Getting Around Albania
If you’re flying into Tirana International Airport, it’s worth arranging your transfer in advance.
I recommend comparing airport transfer options with Hoppa, which can be an affordable and convenient way to travel to your accommodation.

Many organised tours also include hotel pick-up and drop-off, making it easy to experience Albania beyond the festival itself.
Staying Connected in Albania
One thing I would genuinely recommend before travelling to Albania is setting up an eSIM.
During my previous trip to Albania, I used Airalo, and it worked perfectly.
I activated my eSIM before I even boarded my flight, meaning I had mobile data ready to go as soon as I landed.
Having internet access immediately meant I could:
