Wyndham Garden Bangkok Sukhumvit 42 Review
Out of all the hotels I stayed in Bangkok, Wyndham Garden Sukhumvit 42 was unfortunately my least favourite. While the hotel looks modern and stylish online, the reality didn’t live up to expectations.
Location & Area
The location felt too far from the main city areas and not very walkable. The Ekamai BTS Station is nearby, but I still didn’t find this area as convenient or lively as other parts of Bangkok. There’s a small mall at the bottom of the road, but it doesn’t offer much in terms of shops or atmosphere. That said, it does have a KFC — and honestly, it was the best one I had in Thailand!
The Room & Facilities
I stayed in a duplex room, which looked lovely at first glance, but the bathroom was disappointing — it had visible stains and a strong mildew smell. On top of that, the entire floor I was on had water leaking from the ceiling, leaving the carpet damp and giving off a constant mildew odour. Because of those hygiene issues, I didn’t feel comfortable using the pool or many of the hotel’s shared facilities.
I contacted Expedia and, after providing photos and details, was refunded half the cost of my stay.
Additional Complaints:
The staff also didn’t make a great impression. For an apartment-style hotel, I expected a warmer welcome, but the service felt cold and unhelpful from the start, which really set the tone for my stay.
Another major concern was the lift, which didn’t feel safe or well-maintained. Since my room was on the top floor, using it daily made me uneasy — even though the views were nice, it wasn’t worth the stress.
On paper, Wyndham Garden looks perfect — modern rooms, a rooftop pool, and a fitness centre — but in reality, the hotel needs serious maintenance, improved cleanliness, and better hospitality to match what’s advertised.
For the price, it’s also overpriced for Bangkok, especially compared to other hotels that offer better service, comfort, and value.
I was just thankful my stay was only three days.
Final Verdict:
Despite its modern design and decent location near the BTS, I wouldn’t stay here again. The hygiene issues, unwelcoming staff, unsafe lift, and poor value for money made this my least favourite Bangkok stay.
