Best Beaches Near Bangkok - Easy Day Trips & Coastal Escapes

Bangkok is one of my favourite cities — but after days spent exploring temples, rooftop pools, and endless shopping malls, sometimes you just crave a bit of sun, sand, and sea.

The good news? You don’t have to travel far to find it!

If Bangkok is your only stop in Thailand, you can still enjoy the coast — the nearest beaches are just 2–3 hours away.

Perfect for a day trip or overnight escape.

Pattaya Beach – lively & full of energy

Around 150 km (about 2 hours) from Bangkok, Pattaya is the most popular beach near the city. It’s a lively coastal area with a long sandy stretch, lots of restaurants, water sports, and a buzzing nightlife scene. While it’s not the calmest or most tropical beach, it’s ideal if you want a quick change of scenery, a swim, or a sunset dinner by the sea.

Bang Saen – local vibes & great seafood

About 90 minutes from Bangkok, Bang Saen is loved by locals for its relaxed atmosphere, authentic Thai beach experience, and delicious seafood stalls along the promenade. It’s the perfect place if you want something low-key, affordable, and local.

Hua Hin – laid-back resort feel

Around 3 hours away, Hua Hin offers a calmer coastal vibe with boutique resorts, long stretches of sand, and peaceful evening walks. It’s a lovely option if you’re looking to unwind for a weekend while still enjoying great food and stylish cafés.

Koh Samet Island – island escape without flying

If you’re dreaming of clear turquoise water and soft white sand, Koh Samet is a favourite weekend getaway for both locals and visitors. It’s small, tropical, and perfect for a relaxed overnight stay or a romantic beach break.

Tip - If you’re short on time, Pattaya or Bang Saen are perfect for a quick escape. But if you’ve got a full weekend, Hua Hin or Koh Samet offer the best mix of relaxation and beach beauty.
